Had a great gig tonite at Gallery Cabaret-great turn out and appreciative crowd! I need to start a little later next time (like 10 pm)!
Both Jay Mathes and Debe Welch were spot on with their sets. Debe shared her drummer with Jay and it gave Jay's stuff a whole new feel. Debe and her band were great. It turns out Debe's bass player works for the same company I do, even in the same building! How cool is that? After I played, Gilli Moon and Jennifer Julian both performed as a special guest tonite. It was amazing. Gilli is a powerfully passionate performer and Jennifer harmonizes with the voice of an angel.
We packed up the car and Jen and Gilli piled in the front seat (due to the keybaord and guitars being in the back seat), and I took them back to their hotel. It was not the most comfortable ride for them. (I have a Toyota Corolla) Poor Jennifer was in this contorted position, practically out the window. Gilli was between us, almost on the gear shift. When we came to one intersection a Chicago cop hit his lights at which point Gilli slumped down to try to avoid being seen. When she did said maneuver, her thigh knocked the gear shift into neutral! So as I hit the gas the car's engine just revved. I reached down, apologizing for any unintentional perceived inappropriateness and popped the car back into drive. As expected, the Chicago cop didn't have an issue with having 3 people in the front seat; it was almost 2am so domestic disturbances and fights breaking out as bars close down was the order of the day.
It's been a pleasure and an honor (and a heck of a lot of fun!!) meeting both of these beautiful (in more ways than one!) and talented ladies. They're having a great time with my Chicago accent-alas, I have become a linguistic study! Thursday evening we went over to Herbie-Okie and all of us sang together, harmonizing on multiple tunes. The food at Las Cazuelas is fantastic (though it did cause Jen to belch alot during her recording session Friday morning)
I'm wiped and my dog is nuzzling me--It's time for bed!!!
